CSUF PRSSA Students Get an Inside Look at a Creative, Innovative, and Award-Winning Agency

October 31, 2011

IRVINE, Calif. – California State University, Fullerton PRSSA members toured the unique agency of Morgan Marketing & PR in Irvine on October 20, 2011. The award-winning agency specializes in the food and restaurant industry, and has a test kitchen right in the middle of the facility. Some of MMPR clients include True Food Kitchen, Panda Express, Togo’s, and Wienerschnitzel.

One of the most distinctive aspects of this agency was the test kitchen. It allows them to be even closer to, and more effective for, the clients they serve so proudly. Product development, testing and sampling can be done right inside the facility. The conference room nearby is helpful to host sampling and focus groups which aid in making significant headway on projects.
Morgan Marketing & PR has received numerous thanks and “kudos” from their clients for the work they have done. They have received positive feedback on not only the quality of the work, but the quality of the relationships they maintain. The agency prides itself in the “integrity, ethics, and strong values” it upholds as stated on the agency’s profile. Their various creative and innovative campaigns have achieved solid results and great returns on investment – the marks of an effective agency. They are a brilliant example to look to for a unique and successful agency model.

The Morgan Marketing & PR environment is wonderful, and the CSUF PRSSA students are fortunate to be allowed a look inside the agency.

Kristin Proctor – Senior Account Executive at Morgan Marketing & Public Relations
A love of the water and the always sunny weather keeps this native Californian rooted in SoCal; and along with her quick wit and outgoing personality, she brings widespread public relations and marketing experience in the restaurant, hospitality, consumer technology, E-commerce, and non-profit industries.

No stranger to the fast pace and dynamic nature of the agency work-style, Kristin has helped her clients remain at the forefront of both traditional and new media through aggressive implementation of public relations strategies and strong media relations efforts. Kristin has had great success securing coverage at both regional and national levels and always makes a point to exhaust every news angle imaginable to maximize the marketing potential of each promotional opportunity.

At Morgan Marketing, Kristin spends much of her time building media relationships on behalf of agency clients. She is enthusiastic about working with the press and communicating her client’s exciting news, whether it’s promoting a fresh new cocktail or launching a brand campaign, Kristin is all about keeping the media interested and informed.

Kristin graduated from Cal State University, Fullerton with a B.A. in Public Relations and currently resides in Newport Beach. In her free time you can find her at concerts, baseball games, or on the soccer field. Her family and friends would describe her as a “fun-loving, directionally-challenged, music-obsessed, literature-appreciating, sports-nut, food-fanatic” type of girl.

Rachel Ayotte —co-founder of Bread & Butter Public Relations—has had a passion for the hospitality industry for most of her life. Whether preparing arrangements for clients in a local flower shop or working in the front and back-of-house of a locally renowned restaurant, it was while growing up in Little Rock, Arkansas that she developed an appreciation of the importance of customer relations, financial savvy and the creativity it takes to make a small business successful.

Upon completion of her course work at Stanford University, she moved to St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands to pursue her love of the beach and travel and immersed herself in a culinary adventure until her graduation with a BA in Art History and Communications in 1999.  In St. Thomas she worked as a bartender and part-time pastry chef at Craig & Sally’s, an acclaimed family run restaurant in Frenchtown, where she helped maintain the extensive wine list and create desserts inspired by local ingredients for visiting patrons.

After returning to the United States, she moved to Manhattan and dove into public relations for high-profile fashion houses and the bustling Chelsea art gallery scene until the restaurant world beckoned once again and she became the assistant to celebrity chef Michael Romano at Union Square Cafe.  While working with Chef Romano, she helped coordinate high profile media appearances and to promote his second cookbook – Second Helpings from Union Square Cafe. Rachel also worked with Chef Romano and Danny Meyer as they researched and opened their fifth successful NYC restaurant – Blue Smoke and Jazz Standard.  After leaving Union Square Cafe, Rachel went on to oversee catering operations for the celebrated foodie favorite City Bakery, served as Marketing Manager with the legendary Fireman Hospitality Group and then moved back into public relations for Steve Hanson’s B.R. Guest Inc., helping to launch James Hotels in Scottsdale, AZ.

In 2004, missing the warm weather of the west coast, Rachel moved to Los Angeles and joined the restaurant division of Wagstaff Worldwide, a firm specializing in hospitality.  There she oversaw the public relations and promotional campaigns for many high-profile restaurants and television programs across the United States, garnering several James Beard nominations for her clients, as well as top tier placements in food, travel and lifestyle publications.  Shifting gears in 2006, Rachel accepted a position with the global public relations firm Weber Shandwick to work in the consumer division overseeing public relations campaigns for clients such as Carl’s Jr., eHarmony and CVS. Missing the camaraderie of a smaller company and seeing an opportunity to apply her unique sense of hospitality and creativity to her own ventures, she formed Bread & Butter PR with Vachon and has loved every minute since. When not hard at work, she spends as much time as possible with her husband Shane, their daughter Kirby and dogs Giblets and Sophie.

CSUF PRSSA PARTICIPATES IN CA COASTAL CLEANUP DAY

CSUF PRSSA PARTICIPATES IN CA COASTAL CLEANUP DAY

FULLERTON, Calif.—California State University, Fullerton PRSSA members participated in California’s largest volunteer event, the California Coastal Cleanup Day held on Sept. 17, 2011.

This green event is a beach and inland cleanup day that covers the entire state. In 2010, more than 1.2 million pounds of trash were removed by volunteers. There were 60 cleanup sites to choose from in Orange County, including inland creeks, state beaches, and waterways.  CSUF PRSSA chapter chose to participate at Huntington State Beach bringing their own supplies consisting of buckets and gloves.

After checking in at 10 a.m., all participants started cleaning the beach.  Throughout the cleanup, the most common items found were cigarette butts, bread clips, pieces of Styrofoam and bits of paper.  The fire pits on the beach are filled with wire hangers and nails.  It was explained that these nails are what is left over from the scraps of wood people bring for burning.  The wires are used as fire pokers.  “I won’t be going to the beach without shoes ever again” said volunteer Katie Todd.

Each year the California Coastal Cleanup Commission holds a competition for the “Most Unusual Item Found.” Although CSUF PRSSA’s chapter didn’t find anything too out of the ordinary, the 2011 winners were a photo strip of a couple with the man’s face scratched out and a bottle filled with centipedes.

This was CSUF PRSSA’s first time volunteering with the Coastal Clean Up, and it is something that the chapter hopes to continue with in the future.

For more information about Costal Coast Clean Up, please visit www.coastal.ca.gov/publiced/ccd/ccd.html

Special events director Samantha Durbin and member Katie Todd participated in the California Coastal Cleanup Day on September 17, 2011 at Huntington State Beach.
